Integration, All the Way Up

The Blacklift rocket will complete AST SpaceMobile’s end-to-end vertical integration. We build our BlueBird satellites at our production facilities in Texas. Blacklift is designed to launch them on a schedule and to the orbits we set. It will allow us to deploy new capabilities more efficiently and expand the markets we serve beyond cellular broadband.

Reusable by Design, Tested for Reliability

Blacklift is designed for reusability and built on engine architecture with over a decade of development and proven flight heritage. Blacklift is a custom-built rocket designed for simple, mission-specific, repetitive launches to low Earth orbit, using tested fuels and materials.

The engines have completed over 150 hot fire tests, including full-power tests at 110% of rated performance. That is the equivalent of more than 20 full first-stage flights.

We know how BlueBird satellites are packed, handled, and deployed in space. Blacklift is designed around all three, carrying up to five satellites per launch to the orbits our network requires.

Blacklift also adds an in-house capability to control our deployment cadence, providing long-term access to orbit and a path to owners’ economics in launch. Together, these strengths will allow us to scale our network and extend the BlueBird platform to AI, radar and sensing, IoT, terminals, and other new markets.
